About

Graphic designer turned sculptor

I was a professional graphic designer for over 30 years in the Washington DC and Saratoga Springs areas. The clients I worked for ranged from Fortune 50 companies to small mom & pop stores and every kind of organization inbetween. During most of that time I was also a gardener, woodworker and avid birdwatcher.

When I retired from my office job, my creative thirst and desire to learn new skills did not disappear. I built a small metalworking shop, taught myself how to weld and started to direct my creative energies towards more 3 dimensional projects. While my metal sculptures were initially just for my family and the garden beds my wife and I tend to, it became clear that many folks enjoyed these pieces as well.

Now I create a limited number of "garden critters" each year and sell them at local craft fairs. I hope to meet you at one of them and maybe you'll fall in love with a special piece that would work in your garden.

What I do

I create metal sculptures for gardens and homes. Each whimsical garden critter is lovingly designed and crafted with care to bring color and life to any setting ... a garden, deck, patio or even on a mantle.

Material sourcing

I find most of the metal I work with at garage sales, flea markets and estate sales. Sometimes I get lucky and folks "discard" their cool old tools with me.

Fabrication

Virtually every piece of metal needs to be thoroughly cleaned of rust and dirt before the fabrication process can start. Old tools and other steel mechanisms often need to be dismantled, cut and shaped to suit my vision for a particular design.

Finishing

Thoughtfully and carefully painting each piece and then adding accents with glass cabochons is the critical final step in my process. It's this part that really grabs your attention and reveals its true character.
